[NMR] MRI coil building workshop

The NSF funded National High Magnetic Field Laboratory is sponsoring an in depth workshop on building MRI coils for preclinical imaging the week of May 4th- 8th, 2020 at the MagLab AMRIS facility, located at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

The content is designed to introduce graduate and post-doctoral students to the fundamentals of MRI coil design, construction, and testing. The workshop will focus on technical details of coil design and construction, including electromagnetic simulations using CST, practical aspects of circuit design and construction, coil assembly and tuning, and coil testing. Participants will each build their own working surface coil that they will be able to take to their home lab on completion of the workshop.

Cost of the workshop is $100 and spots are extremely limited. Participants will be responsible for their travel and lodging; lunches and workshop supplies are included.

[NMR] Chianti Workshop 2020 “Opening New Doors for Magnetic Resonance”

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to announce that the Chianti Workshop 2020 “Opening New Doors for Magnetic Resonance” will be held in Florence and in Grosseto, Italy, from 7 to 12 June 2020. This meeting follows the well known tradition of Chianti Workshops, which are held in Tuscany since 1984.

The workshop is focused on the recent results and future perspectives in the field of Magnetic Resonance, from Chemistry to Life and Material Sciences. This year the Workshop has an added value because, after more than a decade of research development, the first 1.2 GHz NMR instrument is being installed in Florence, opening a new era of ultra-high field NMR instruments.

For this reason, we will start the meeting in Florence, with a special day dedicated to the new magnet and the perspectives of ultra-high magnetic fields. Then the workshop will continue in the fascinating environment of the Tuscany countryside. This will be a further occasion to discuss together about the future perspectives of the next decade of research in Magnetic Resonance.

So, save the date! we are going to open the registration soon.

Best Regards

1st International EPR-on-a-chip Workshop

EPR-on-a-chip is an emerging technology that aims at providing the analytical power of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy in the tiny form factor of a millimeter-sized microchip.

Within the BMBF sponsored research project EPRoC, the possibilities of this new and fascinating technology are evaluated in the context of operando EPR measurements on energy materials.

The goal of the 1st International EPR-on-a-chip Workshop is to serve as a forum for discussing the possibilities of the EPR-on-a-chip technology in other disciplines, including catalysis, biology and medicine.

[NMR] Dnp workshop October 22-24 at NHMFL

The NIH funded P41 “National Resource for Advanced NMR Technology” is sponsoring an in-depth workshop on DNP-enhanced MAS ssNMR at the National High Magnetic Field Lab (NHMFL) NMR facility October 22-24, 2019, in Tallahassee, FL.

The workshop will focus on practical aspects of MAS-DNP NMR, including technical details of instrumentation, maintenance, theory and best practices for ssNMR spectroscopy, and samples preparation strategies for optimal DNP. Significant time will be spent in lab working with the 600 MHz MAS-DNP instrument, a benchtop X-band EPR instrument, preparing samples, and collecting DNP data. The content is designed for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff scientists who are pursuing MAS-DNP measurements in their studies, and participants are encouraged to bring a trial sample for characterization on the instruments.

Registration is limited to 5 participants, who will be responsible for travel and lodging. Lunch will be provided.

For application details, please contact Amy Howe, amy.howe@ufl.edu . The regional SEMRC conference (https://nationalmaglab.org/news-events/events/for-scientists/south-east-magnetic-resonance-conference) will be held directly after the workshop.

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the 11th user meeting of the French infrastructure for high-field NMR spectroscopy (IR-RMN THC, https://www.ir-rmn.fr/), which will be held at the University of Lille (France) on November 19, 2019.

The invited talks for this meeting are:

“NMR Crystallography of Photoresponsive Materials” by John Griffin (Lancaster University, UK);

“Electron Decoupling and DNP with Chirped Microwave Pulses and MAS Spheres” by Alexander Barnes (Washington University, USA).

Furthermore, some of the users of the IR-RMN THC will present their recent achievements using high-field NMR spectroscopy in research areas, such as structural biology and materials science. IR-RMN THC staff will also present recent developments related to high-field NMR. A round table will also be chaired by the committee of IR-RMN THC users in order to discuss the needs of the users, the operation of the infrastructure and the possible improvements.

This meeting aims at bringing together users and staff of the IR-RMN THC, fostering exchanges between them and the submission of new proposals to the IR-RMN THC.

Please register for the workshop at the website:

https://www.ir-rmn.fr/en/news/users-meetings/71-11-users-meeting

The workshop is sponsored by IR-RMN THC and the registration is free of charge. The recent users of IR-RMN THC, who have been granted access to its high-field NMR spectrometers, are cordially invited to participate to this meeting.

Workshops about pure shift NMR and advanced NMR methods for quadrupolar nuclei are also organized at the University of Lille (France) on November 18, 2019. More information on these workshops is provided on the IR-RMN website (https://www.ir-rmn.fr/).

We look forward to welcoming you at the University of Lille in November.

Best regards,

The organization committee:

Christian Bonhomme, François-Xavier Cantrelle, Olivier Lafon, Charlotte Martineau, Jean-Pierre Simorre, Julien Trébosc, Xavier Trivelli, Nicolas Wolff
