Open positions:

Postdoc for hyperpolarized in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (preclinical):We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with experience in preclinical hyperpolarized magnetic resonance in vivo who wants to work in a multidisciplinary team on magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging of metabolism in the brain. The successful candidate will benefit from state-of-the-art high field NMR and microimaging equipment and a team of chemists dedicated to develop new hyperpolarized contrast agents.Your Profile

Junior Scientist – Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

We are seeking to fill an open position in our team for a Junior Scientist. You will work on multidisciplinary projects covering many different aspects of magnetic resonance, instrumentation design, development of prototypes and conduct research. This is a junior position and while some experience or a background in magnetic resonance spectroscopy (e.g. NMR, EPR, MRI, DNP) is desired, it is not necessary.

We are looking for a creative, highly motivated, highly organized individual who enjoys an innovative, interdisciplinary environment and the challenges that come with manufacturing high-tech, scientific instrumentation. This position requires the ability to apply sound scientific fundamentals to the design and characterization of magnetic resonance instruments.

You will work out of the Bridge12 facilities in Framingham, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments under the guidance of a senior researcher.
  • Characterization and quality control of scientific instruments fabricated by Bridge12.
  • Data analysis, generation of reports and presentations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Sound understanding of scientific principles and their application.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and good teamwork ethics
  • Proficiency in programming in Python

Optional Skills & Experience

  • Experience in performing NMR experiments
  • Experience in performing electromagnetic simulations (e.g. Ansys HFSS and Maxwell)
  • Experience using 3D CAD tools for mechanical design (e.g. Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks)
  • Printed Circuit Board design and prototyping

Qualification

Summer Intern

We are looking for a highly self-motivated summer intern to join our team of researchers. Bridge12 is a small business in Framingham, focused on the development of microwave and terahertz instrumentation used in scientific research such as magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR, EPR, DNP), communication systems and industrial applications. Our instruments are used in structural biology (e.g. Alzheimer or Parkinson Research), to characterize crude oils, or fusion experiments by a worldwide customer base.

Your Work Will Include

  • Perform magnetic resonance experiments (NMR, EPR, DNP) under the guidance of an experienced researcher to demonstrate the capabilities of our products
  • Develop Python code to analyze experimental data sets
  • Hardware development of analog/digital electronic systems
  • C++ programming of embedded controllers

Essential Skills/Attributes

  • Strong interest in physical science and engineering
  • Excellent python programming skills using numerical libraries such as Matplotlib, Numpy, Scipy and/or C++ programming skill.
  • A proactive approach to maintaining high-quality code

Hardware Engineer

As a Hardware Engineer at Bridge12, you will work on multidisciplinary projects that involve the development of control systems for microwave and terahertz generators, particle accelerators and other scientific instrumentation involving real-time and embedded software, firmware and hardware. The candidate shall have a solid knowledge of FPGA design and be capable of RTL design, simulation, physical implementation and verification of complex FPGA modules comprising a mix of custom RTL with hard and soft vendor IP cores within a larger architecture. The candidate should be experienced in circuit design, schematic capture and board bring up. The candidate shall be responsible for selecting components and determining hardware test specification based on required parameter, performance and cost criteria. The candidate will interface with cross functional teams for firmware design/development team and mechanical engineering team. This position requires creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas for efficient hardware implementation. There will be occasional travel associated with installation and testing at customer site.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in FPGA/VHDL design and development tools

  • Knowledge of RTL (VHDL, Verilog/System Verilog ) synthesis, simulation, implementation, and debug tools

  • Experience designing around FPGA based SoCs is desirable

  • Good understanding of hardware/software partitioning

  • Familiarity with FPGA design tools such as Xilinx Vivado tools in specific ZYNQ SoCs

  • Familiarity with Xilinx Tcl

  • Familiarity with Cadence or Mentor Graphics Schematic Capture and Layout tools

  • In depth understanding of digital design principals

  • In depth understanding of low-level hardware/software system debugging

  • Proven track record of designing and analyzing electronic and embedded solutions

  • Knowledge of basic signal processing concepts (MATLAB)

  • Knowledge of implementing signal processing algorithms

  • Experience with Logic Analyzers, Digital Oscilloscopes

  • Experience in completing at least one complete product design life cycle

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and good team work ethic

Optional Skills & Expertise

  • Familiarity with signal and power integrity analysis, board level simulation, knowledge of standard interfaces such as PCI Express, Ethernet at the electrical and protocol level

  • Proficiency writing scripts using Python, MATLAB and other modern scripting tools

  • Knowledge of C/C++ language in embedded environments helpful

Scientist – Microwave Systems

As a scientist at Bridge12, you will work on multidisciplinary projects that involve all aspects of the design and development of microwave/terahertz sources and particle. You will also take leadership in conceiving new products based on innovative techniques for generating high THz power in compact systems for scientific and industrial applications and discover new applications for high-power terahertz sources. You will have to set milestones, schedules and budgets for your projects. There will be occasional travel associated with attending research conferences, tradeshows and to visit customers. In this specific role you will work on the development of novel systems such as:

  • Traveling wave tubes (TWT)
  • Gyrotron oscillators and amplifiers
  • Development of electron guns for vacuum electron devices
  • High-power, low-loss transmission line systems for microwave and terahertz propagation
  • Particle accelerators for application in cancer therapy

Minimum Qualifications

  • > 5 years of research and development of vacuum electronics based sources (e.g. TWTs, gyrotrons) or particle accelerators and microwave engineering
  • > 5 years of experience in experimental research. Laboratory experience in working with high voltage and high magnetic fields
  • Microwave measurement techniques including the use of a Vector Network Analyzer
  • Must have experience using RF simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS (High Frequency Simulation Software) and Ansys Thermal and Mechanical simulation tools. Prior experience in the use of Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulation tools is preferred
  • Familiarity with 3D computer aided design tools such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or similar tools
  • Experience in using applications developed in LabView
  • Proficiency writing scripts using Python, MATLAB and other modern scripting tools
  • Experience in grant proposal writing
